I had read in several books that Judy had wanted (or actually *was* cast as) the role of MAME on Broadway, as Angela Lansbury’s replacement. This ultimately did not occur, because the producers were afraid to take a chance on her reliability. This devastated her.
Perhaps doing the role might have been good for her. It would have given her a regular routine and a schedule, and would have helped her to stay in top form. Thoughts?
