Facts forgotten by people during a busy day may be recalled after a good night"s sleep.This is what the scientists from the University of Chicago have recebtly found.They asked some people to remember simple words.Many people found their memories let them down at night.But if they sleep well,they could recall much more the following morning.
One of the scientists said the brain could"restore"lost memories during the night.When the brain was first asked to remember something,that memory was in an "unstable"state.It meant it was possible that it could be lost.But sometimes the brain could consolidate the important ones into a “stable”state.
12 people took part in the test .They were asked to listen to some difficult words. At first,they have the written forms of the words as well ,but then they were asked to identify the words from listening only.
The test showed that the ability to recall the right words tailed off as the day ended.However,when the people were tested again after a good night"s sleep,they were able to recall some words that they had“forgotten".
Ascientist of the study said,"Sleep consolidates memories.Sleep could also restore memories."
