显然，Armed with a torch是状语，它的逻辑主语应该是the vicar 。所以我想问，我认为这里应该是Arming with a torch，而不应该是Armed with a torch。应该它的主语the vicar 不是“被”装备的，比如：
Putting down my books,I went out to play basketball.如果说成是：
Putted down my books,I went out to play basketball.应该是错的吧。
所以，为什么书中是Armed，而不是Arming ？？？

现在分词做状语与过去分词做状语的最主要区别在于两者与所修饰的主语的主动与被动关系的区别。 Armed 是用被动的啊。主语是vicar,你只能说，the vicar was armed with a torch. 不能说 the vicar armed a torch .后面的句子 put 就是主动了所以用ING。 比如说： Faced with difficulties, we must try to overcome them .Given more attention, the trees could have grown better. 这里 主语都是被动的we were faced with difficulties. the tree
