红池隧道为滨绥线牡丹江至绥芬河段铁路隧道扩能改造工程，本设计中隧道进出口均采用帽檐斜切式洞门，以达到美观要求。本隧道采用新奥法施工方法，衬砌结构均采用复合式衬砌。Ⅲ～Ⅴ级围岩隧道均采用曲墙带仰拱衬砌结构形式，洞口段采用明洞开挖，进行超前支护及整体衬砌。隧道通风采用压入式通风。排水设计采取“防、排、截、堵结合，因地制宜，综合治理”的原则；在富水地段且对水环境有严格要求的地段，采取“以堵为主，限量排放”原则。根据需要本隧道设置了一座斜井作为辅助坑道。隧道内设固定式照明设施，加设应急照明，专用洞室设置固定照明。施工方面，开挖采用光面爆破，严格控制超欠挖，初期支护喷混凝土采用湿喷工艺，并进行科学施工管理。
