The train he was looking forward to ______ half an hour later.
A. arrive B. arrivingC. had arrivedD. arrived
为什么选d不是look forward to doing吗？

The train he was looking forward to 这是主语，中心词是TRAIN。 he was looking forward to 是修饰中心词的 ，用来告诉你这是一辆什么样的火车。就像a read train中read的作用一样。题中这句话的主要意思应是“火车在半小时后到了”其余部分只是补充说明火车的

he was looking forward to 是定语，修饰The train .句子主干是The train arrived half an hour later。

he was looking forward to 是The train 的定语,可以理解为The train (he was looking forward to )arrivedhalf an hour later.
