自iPhone问世以来，传感器被广泛的应用在手机上，逐渐成为手机硬件的重要组成部分。方向传感器就是其中之一。虽然手机可以通过GPS来判断方向，但在GPS信号不好或根本没有GPS信号的情况下，GPS就形同虚设。这时通过方向传感器（磁阻传感器）就可以很容易判断方向。有了方向传感器使罗盘（即指南针）的电子化成为可能。
电子罗盘的设计主要就是方向传感器的应用。在Android应用程序中使用方向传感器要依赖于Android内部的SensorListener接口和SensorManager传感器综合管理类。在SensorManager主要负责传感器的注册、卸载以及传感器服务信息的管理。在Android程序中通过getSystemService和registerListener获得传感器并注册一个传感器，使用unregisterListener来卸载一个传感器。SensorListener中的两个方法分别是onSensorChanged和onAccuracyChanged，他们主要负责传感器检测方向的改变和传感器精度的改变。方向传感器获得角度传递给旋转补间动画部分，这样就可以实现电子罗盘的功能。SensorManager主要负责传感器的注册、卸载以及传感器服务信息的管理。在Android程序中通过getSystemService和registerListener获得传感器并注册一个传感器，使用unregisterListener来卸载一个传感器。SensorListener中的两个方法分别是onSensorChanged和onAccuracyChanged，他们主要负责传感器检测方向的改变和传感器精度的改变。方向传感器获得角度传递给旋转补间动画部分，这样就可以实现电子罗盘的功能。
