Assignment: Do the benefits of technology always outweigh the costs?
Though the development of technology has made the world smaller and it indicates the advancements of mankind , technology improved at the expense of many problems in a variable of aspects.Through my study I think the benefits of technology are not always outweigh the costs.We can see it is a complex issue from the word “always”,so I select two aspects of this problem.
Technology depends on experiments to verify its theory and factories to create its achievement . All these things will have a tremendous influence on the environment ,even do harm to people’s health .So the first problem is pollution such as air pollution and water polluton.Modern city life attracts numerous people who want to get to higher class but it sometimes turns outto be a wrong choise . The smog ,in some of the world ‘s big citis ,is unbelievable at times.The main cause is the industrialization,and its proximity to the city .Global warming and high level pollution are also have a deleterious effect on both people’s health and the earth . Further more ,problems with the water supply are becoming more and serious by the day.There is no doubt that device for water supply has been very complicated,however, the use of chemicals and spillages and overflows of polluted water result in dangers ofalmost all creature’s lives.The technology in many fields helps our lives become convenient ,at the same time, we must admit the health problem it causes are noticeable.
Besides the health problem ,the morality problem enlighten us more. Technology shows its contradiction .This vast new field of genetic science has given rise to the possibility of creating human organisms to replace damaged,or diseased,body parts. Known as cloning people,a genetic technology , may be the trigger for ethical problems.So the scientists never put it into effect.Another technology,organ transplants,are accepted part of medical practice today .But consider it from another view ,the person who want one another’ s body part is equal to looking forward to his or her death.Who can judge that it is right or wrong ?everyone’ s life is valuable .We can judge that war is disastrous,and high-tech weapons make the casualties heavier.An individual must know war is wrong,but can not judge when he or she participates in the war under certain banners.
Of course there are other instances to substantiate that the costs of technology outweigh the benefits of it in some fields even though we can not deny the importance and prominence of the improvement of technology.What we can do is explore the unknown things to develop the technology on the basis of maintenance of environment and correct morality.
