The government raised taxes in order to increase the revenue. Because of the higher taxes, the citizens had less money to spend and bought fewer goods. As a result, the companies sold fewer goods and earned less money so that they had to dismiss some workers. The workers who had been dismissed paid no taxes because they didn’t have jobs. These are unintended consequences.
