From the day I was born, I was a sickly weak child who never had as much energy as a child of my age should have. When I turned four, I had asthma(哮喘)and for the most part was in constant pain I was in and out of doctors’offices many times, but they could never find out what was wrong.
One night, I had a fever, high blood pressure, nonstop vomiting (呕吐). My parents quickly took me to the emergency (急诊)room, where they were told that I needed my appendix(阑尾)taken out, I lay there that night, getting worse by the minute. At that point, the doctors knew it was more than my appendix.
The next day, I was taken to the children’s hospital under the care of Dr. Kohen, a kidney(肾)specialist. After two weeks of treatment, my kidneys were only working 2 percent of the time and if something wasn’t done,l woald die.
My parents were told that their only daughter was dying and without much improvement would be put on a waiting list for a kidney transplant(移植).
That njght , my dad sat down by my bed and told me that I was going to fight harder than l had ever fought before, All of a sudden, I reached up and gathered all the energy I had---I hit him on the nose! He knew then that l was not going to give up without a fight.
Tlhe next morning I was given a transplant ,and l was put on steroids (透析).Within a couple of days, I started showing steady signs of improvement, but my parents were told, “Krissy will never have as much energy as a normal kid, even if she pulls through.”
Well, ten years later, I can proudly say, “l.ook at me now!”I am fourteen years old,I play four sports, and I am a living miracle(奇迹)to my doctors, family and friends, Even if you are only given a two percent chance of survival, that’s all you really need.
