For biodiesel, the market is different. There is currently no “sugarcane” of biodiesel.Although palm oil looks attractive on a number of criteria, there is a great deal of controversy regarding scaling this market.The EU and Japan, for instance,are motivated by reducing CO2 emissions and the rain forest issues associated with palm oil work against this objective.Jatropha looks promising but is as yet untried at scale. There is also a chance that second generation BtL (biomass to liquids)technology could become competitive by 2012. In summary, in 2012, Accenture does not see a dominant feedstock for biodiesel.Producers will continue to have portfolios of different feedstocks and a diversified portfolio of feedstock is the best strategy for biodiesel producers.
