There are important factors in the analysis and evolution of a marketing strategy that are company specific. A basic factor is company size, which can increase or decrease a company’s options. For example, a fledgling firm may not have the financial resources to compete with major competitors. Another is the company’s mission – how it sees itself and what its role is in the marketplace. When a sensible mission statement is articulated and followed, it will guide and perhaps determine the company’s response to a market opportunity. Similar in character,but less obvious in its influence, is a company’s culture。For example, if it is a company’s major cultural characteristic to promote from within, then initiatives requiring new human skills are likely to be avoided or undertaken slowly。Some companies deliberately define and thereby restrict the scope of their activities. Sometimes this decision is rooted in technology,geography or market segment。In any event, company scope will strongly influence choice of marketplace strategy. Another kind of company influence on marketing strategy includes ownership of proprietary brand names, patented knowledge, and leadership choices.
