The best book to learn is official Oracle documentation. It's accurate and very well written and easy to search. It's said it's so better written than SQL Server documentation that people coming from SQL Server background usually don't believe reading documentation is so useful.
Regarding UNIX study, if you don't want to spend too much time on system administration, you may play with David Korn's UWin (UNIX for Windows, search for the URL) or cygwin (www.cygwin.com). Learn basic commands and utilities.
To beginners: it's a bad idea to learn Oracle from GUI, Oracle Enterprise Manager and the like. Memorizing SQL commands helps you in the long run. And never forget to calmly sit down reading Concept manual one page at a time and plan to read it for at least 3 months. It turns you into an expert the fastest way.
One last suggestion: keep browsing public forums like this one and keep your own Oracle instance running while you read messages, so you can do your own lab test immediately when you're in doubt of something, or want to reproduce somebody's problem.
I hope the above advice comes across to all beginners.
