now our comapny's ERP system will soon migrate to DB2.
the IBM Server will be located abroad.we will setup DDN line to
connect to the server.so the OLTP will be running on DB2.
and we also need to setup OLAP on Oracle8i/NT in our own
local place.so that the daily report and long inquiring will not
contentthe bandwidth and resource with OLTP.
and our data is small.never exceed ten million records per table.
so thefirst chioce is which edition of oracle should we choose,
EE,or standard? and can we setup daily synchronization between
DB2 and oracle? which kind of development tools can we use to
programming and building reports?
although i got some knowledge of oracle before from DBA tests.
but the reality is so different,right?

your problem is pretty tough. you can use replication technology to syncchroniation your data, but you have different database resource - it likes like your side hasn't been setup, why don't you choose DB2?DB2 has for windows version new.that will make your job easy a lot.
if you already chosed oracle on your side, EE is better.EE has much more features then standard.Please make sure, do not install those features you do not need on your prod server.
About report, I don't know the product for Chinese Report,Crystal report is a popular product.and if your do not need those complicate function, you can use Oracle Report too.

the reason to choose DB2 and Oracle is we want to
learn both databases.

and i have passed some ocp dba tests already.and i need
the learning environment.the boss don't care which db
u choose.they just need the result.
if we buy some developing tools like toad,can we use
standard edition,cause it's much cheaper?

I have not studied the licence fee.but you can find out what is the different between standard and EE on OTN or Metalink.
But if you just want to learn oracle, you really do not need put oracle on your production. in your scenario, using oracle on China side, it looks like not good.

May be 9i is the solution. With its database gateway, it can easy transfer online data to another kind of database.
