I have involved in telecommunication BOSS system development for a long time. Now most of the BOSS solution providers have developed their applications based on application server.
BEA is the No.1 application server in China ( it seems that our china customer do have lots of money, they don't care the weblogic' high price)
Websphere: I still haven't heard any solution providers develop their application based on websphere, but IBM always charge no money for this product.
iPlanet: BaoSteel uses iPlanet developed Portal applications. Actually Sun should be a good partner to sell Weblogic . If you do some research, you will find out the 60% weblogic running on Sun platform. But after Sun merged the Netscape' iPlanet department , the Sun' sales have the responsibility to see iPlanet.
Oracle 9i: Pushed by Oracle. I have a friend in US involved in developing JDeveloper, he told me that Oracle will develop the JDeveloper wholly based on Java.
I know that the concept of application server is very hot in china. But untill now I don't see much products based on the AS.
