Overview
========
The Windows 2000 operating system is the next generation of the Windows NT
series of operating systems. The user interface is a combination of the
Windows NT / Windows 98 environments and internally many changes have been
made to strengthen its reliability, availability, scalability and end-to-end
management features.
There are five separate editions of Windows 2000 :
Windows 2000 Professional Edition
Windows 2000 Server Standard Edition
Windows 2000 Advanced Server
Windows 2000 Datacenter Server
Windows 2000 MultiLanguage Edition - MLE
The following article describes the compatibility of the Oracle Database
server products with the Windows 2000 operating system. For information
relating to Windows 9.x refer to [NOTE:65995.1], Windows NT refer to
[NOTE:45997.1] and Windows XP / .NET refer to [NOTE:161546.1].
Microsoft and Oracle only provide 32-Bit support with Windows 2000, 64-Bit
support is provided by the 64Bit versions of Windows XP / .NET, please refer
to [NOTE:161546.1] for additional information.
Microsoft Service Pack and Oracle Patch Set Support
===================================================
Oracle does not certify Database Server products against service packs, thus
all service packs are implicitly supported. However, Oracle may require a
minimum service pack build for certain products which would be documented in
the accompanying release notes.
If you encounter a problem internal to Oracle software, Oracle Support
Services will raise a BUG for you with the appropriate Oracle development
group. Oracle Patch Sets can be applied to all editions of the database
(Enterprise Edition, Standard Edition or Personal Edition) any variation to
this will be documented in the accompanying readme file. For more detailed
information about Oracle Database and Networking patches please refer to
[NOTE:161549.1].
Oracle Server Product Support
=============================
All editions of the Oracle8i / Oracle9i database (Enterprise, Standard,
Personal and Client software) support all editions of Windows 2000. However,
certain advanced features of the database may not be available on all Windows
2000 versions. Please note currently the same CD is used for Windows NT and
Windows 2000.

or Oracle8i Release 8.1.5 on Windows 2000. |
