N.B. The role of Oracle Development DBA is distinct from either a Production DBA or a Developer who has used the Oracle database platform
Overview of Role and Purpose
To provide assistance to R&D on any Oracle issues that arise.
To provide guidance and advice on best practice for SQL development within R&D.
To provide on site assistance where and when required, especially in the area of upgrades.
To provide assistance in all areas of performance.
To produce internal and external upgrade scripts for all Oracle databases
To explore new advances and technologies for Oracle and determine the likely affect to our development environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES, ACCOUNTABILITIES, and LIMITS of AUTHORITY
Key Responsibilities and Accountability
In addition to the duties and responsibilities outlined below, the person filling the role will be required to perform other duties assigned by the Manager from time to time.
Produce Oracle Upgrade scripts to ensure that the full upgrade path is obtained for all database changes.
Take ownership of assigned elements of the Oracle Upgrade projects.
Provide Oracle assistance to R&D and other areas of the company as required.
Provide onsite assistance with new upgrades to SU Personnel worldwide, both in doing the upgrades and spreading the knowledge from R&D to SU offices around the world.
To liase closely with the following areas: -
Principal Data Architect.
SQL Server Development DBA
Data Services team.
Build & Release.
International Support Centre.
Professional Services
Technology Architecture.
Technical Architecture Manager.
To be proactive in assessing all aspects of the database new and old, including the use of views, stored procedures and triggers.This is to be done for performance and ease of maintenance.
To be aware of all new developments to ensure that there is no conflict when projects are merged in together.
To research and investigate new uses of the above technologies in meeting customer’s needs; both internal and external.
To research and investigate the use of new technologies within the Data Services team and R&D to meet customers’ needs.
To acquire and use knowledge of the SunSystems product and its technologies where appropriate.
To conform to ISO9001 standards when carrying out all of the above duties.
In carrying out all of the above, the person filling the role shall at all times act in accordance with the company’s business strategy and Quality Policy, and in compliance with all corporate and departmental policies, procedures, and other requirements as defined in the company’s Business Objectives, Policies and Procedures documents (BOPPs).

Education, Training, and Qualifications Required

Ideally candidate should have or should be working towards a professional qualification.
Oracle certification to OCA Level
Desirable
Oracle certification to OCP Level
Skills and Experience Required
Essential
Minimum 5 years commercial experience.
Oracle 8x & 9x
Oracle certification (at least to OCA level, but preferably to OCP level)
TOAD
Time management skills
Fault finding skills
Information or knowledge research skills
Good communication skills, on both technical and non-technical levels

Good grasp of technical issues
Good interpersonal skills

MS SQL Server 2000 (including PL-SQL)
