Job Responsibilities
?
Successful candidate will provide a support for multiple oracle databases within the organization.
?
Person should be comfortable dealing with complicated and non-standard break-fixes for which standard support is not sufficient. Periodic on-call/off-hours duties are part of this position.
?
Ability to work under pressure and deliver on deadline is a must.
?
Candidate needs to work on BU projects as developer DBA for designing and implementation.
?
In addition candidate is expected to take an initiative when required and to proactively address issues based on the experience and an established standard.
?
Individual will be participating in the design consultations with various organizations and as such should be able to clearly articulate and substantiate given recommendations.
?
As a member of the team candidate is expected to work alongside fellow DBAs and to help others on as needed basis as well to ask for help when appropriate.
?
Broad understanding of the current informational technologies is a big plus.
?
Coaching and assistance to junior database administrators may be needed.
?
Manage projects to meet all the defined goals.
Job Requirements
?
Bachelor degree in computer science or equivalent discipline
?
Minimum 8 years hands on knowledge of Oracle in a production environment
?
Minimum 3 years experience working in 24x7 environment
?
Experience troubleshooting and tuning Oracle in a production environment
?
Experience with very large production databases (1 TB+)
?
Experience with SQL tuning
?
Understanding of multi-tier architectures from a conceptual level
?
Experience with database replication technology, preferably Streams, logical standby and Shareplex
?
Proven problem solving skills with an emphasis on quick problem resolution
?
Mid-level Unix system administration skills
?
Some Windows system administration skills
?
Mid-Level LAN and WAN network knowledge
?
Knowledge of MySQL database administration, performance tuning and configuration is a big plus
?
Experience to lead a team (3+ people) andproven leadership skills
?
Project management experience
?
Ability to work on many tasks simultaneously in a high-pressure environment
?
Motivated self-starter personality; must be able to work independently of supervision but be a willing and contributing participant on cross-functional team
?
Excellent English written and oral communication skills

Job Description
The MySQL Database engineer will be a key member of COC production DBA team with responsibility of building the most efficient, reliable and low-cost database platform. The DBA will have the responsibility in providing, implementing and managing the best database infrastructure to meet the growing the business needs.
Responsibilities
?
Continually improve the MySQL database architecture on the area of HA, replication, monitoring
?
Lead the assigned projects by understanding the ebay application, applications interaction with databases and provide and implement MySQL based solutions if possible
?
Setting up new databases, monitoring, creating necessary database objects as required by the projects, SQL*Review etc
?
Take corrective action for operational problems with a goal of improving Continuous Operations excellence
?
Provide the database best practice design methodologies and continuously re-assessing the infrastructure for opportunities of optimization that would save infrastructure costs and or getting the best out of our technology assets
?
Setup the standard how to run MySQL on the site
?
Maintain MySQL binary release for eBay specific needs including developing specific MySQL feature and even eBay’s own storage engine
?
Lead research on MySQL and figure out how to push MySQL to its limits through careful design and tuning.
?
Lead the team to improve MySQL skills
Job Qualifications
?
5+ years of MySQL experience
?
Expert understanding of MySQL architecture and internals
?
Experience with InnoDB/Memory/MyISAM storage engines
?
Experience with MySQL replication, HA, clustering and monitoring
?
Experience with large MysQL rollout on key business applications
?
Strong C/C++ programming skills and ability to hack MySQL and even develop specific storage engine
?
Broad knowledge of common applications and technologies in Internet computing (web servers, app servers, database servers, load balancers etc)
?
Working expertise with at least one scripting language (Python, Perl, shell, etc.)
?
Ability to provide reliable technical support and guidance on routine site issues in a high velocity, dynamic environment
?
Flexible, adaptable, and able to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
?
Knowledge of Oracle,Postgres or other major DBMS architectures and internals is a big plus
?
Knowledge of NOSQL technologies like MongoDB, Cassandra, HBase is a big plus
