except for后面跟的是bookshelf是跟了一个名词，standing是用作bookshelf的宾补表明bookshelf是standing的状态跟except for无关纯粹是非谓语的一种用法...

standing in one corner 是做bookshelf的定语。分词作定语，表主动所以用doing。相当于定语从句which is staanding in one corner....
