萧山地处钱塘江南岸，为杭州南大门，东接绍兴。全区总面积1420.22平方公里，其中非农业人口440946人。辖有11个街道、17个镇。区委、区政府驻地北干街道。 萧山历史悠久，境内的“跨湖桥文化”距今有8000年。因地处浙江南北要冲，交通便利。 浙赣、萧甬铁路，沪杭甬高速公路、104国道、省道杭金公路和杭金衢高速公路穿境而过，杭甬运河和钱塘江、富春江、浦阳江也在境内汇流。杭州萧山国际机场旅客吞吐量列全国第9位；货邮吞吐量列全国第8位。 近几年，全区国内生产总值、工业总产值等主要经济指标实绩居浙江省县（市、区）级首位。
As the south gate of Hangzhou city, Xiaoshan, on the south bank of the Qiantang River is located at the south part of most developed Yangtze River Delta.
