应该将原句中的so改为than，修改后的句子为：No sooner had the words been spoken than he realized that he should have remained silent.这里其实是在考察no sooner ……than这个固定搭配的用法，表示“一.......就.......”；句子意思：这些话刚一说出口，他就意识到自己应该保持缄默的。
