In RMAN's terminology, it's not "cold" backup, but "offline" backup, when the database is not open but mounted.
Why do you need online log files even in offline backup? I don't recall doing an offline backup using RMAN. I may have done it when I was learning it many years ago. Why not run the database in archive log mode and do online backup? If you have a big data load, run it in noarchivelog mode during that time, followed by archivelog mode with a full backup.
